Camden Town: Guide Basics
Camden Town, London: Get Your Bearings
In the map below Camden Town station is at an intersection in the centre and the five main directions from it provide five totally different atmospheres.
Camden market and the busiest area is upwards (up the one way Camden High Street). Note: if you keep going up this road you will come to the popular areas of Belsize Park and Hampstead.
If you went the opposite way, downwards towards Mornington Crescent - you will find a busy high street with good shopping from large retailers like Woolworth, Argos, Waterstones, etc.
To the map's left: walking up Parkway (you cannot drive up - it is one-way for cars) will lead you to Regent's Park, which includes London Zoo.
The two other spokes, Camden Road and Kentish Town Road are more like long through roads, although Kentish Town is an interesting area with a few top quality pubs (some of the best like The Pineapple are somewhat hidden away).
Camden Town: Getting there:
Camden Town is on the Northern Line and if you are travelling north to get to it, you can take both the Edgware and the High Barnet branches. Be warned: rush hours can be unpleasantly busy. The Northern line has a bad reputation but has improved somewhat over the years.
Numerous buses also serve Camden Town. Transport for London has downloadable bus maps, showing all the routes. Camden Town straddles the central London and north west London maps available from their site.
