Tuesday, 07 February 2006

The Commonwealth Games Council for England has announced an 18-strong long list for the Melbourne 2006 Games, including eight players who featured in the England women’s silver medal winning team at the last Commonwealth Games. Four of the eight – Jennie Bimson, Mel Clewlow, Carolyn Reid and Lucilla Wright - go even further back - winning silver at Kuala Lumpur in 1998.

The long list blends experience with youth and includes Beckie Herbert, Alex Danson, Charlotte Hartley, Chloe Rogers and Crista Cullen, who have all recently made the step-up from playing at under-21 level.

Head coach Danny Kerry said: "We will now confirm final selection after our weekend in Amsterdam (17-19 February)."
