Matthew said: "I could hardly hold the racket in the final stages of the match, it was so nerve-wracking." Meanwhile Tania Bailey beat top seed and defending champion Linda Elriani 9-7 6-9 9-6 9-3 in their first ever meeting. It was Tania Bailey's first title for five years. Her junior squash career included gaining the world title in Rio, but since then she has suffred setbacks through a knee injury and a debilitating virus. According to the Official National Squash Championship website, Tania Bailey said: "I said to myself 'come on, you don't want to lose it now after getting this close.' "Having had so many problems over the years you appreciate it even more, so being able to do it here, on a stage like this, is just fantastic." |
