Shelley-Marie Rudman was born on 23 March 1981 in Swindon and was studying sports performance at Bath University when a friend, who was on the British bob skeleton team, introduced her to the sport in 2001.

Rudman competed for the first time in November 2002 in Igls, Austria, and ended up winning the women's novices race. A month later Shelley represented Great Britain at skeleton in a Europa Cup race in Winterberg, Germany.

Since then Shelley has become the World Student Champion 2005, and the British Woman's Champion 2004 and 2005, as well as being a silver medalist in the European Championship 2006.

In the 2006 Winter Olympics Shelley Rudman picked up a silver medal with a brilliant run in the women's skeleton clocking a time of two minutes, 1.49 seconds just behind gold medallist Swiss champion Maya Pedersen.

Shelley has a loyal fan club based around friends in her village, Pewsey. The Shelley Rudman Supporters’ Group raised £4,000 for Shelley by doing a canoe marathon along the Kennet and Avon Canal.

Shelley's boyfriend is Kristan Bromley - the British bob skeleton No 1.

In October 2007, they had a baby girl, Ella Marie Bromley.

More information on Shelley Rudman can be found on the British Bob Skeleton Site.
