I'm still waiting for the day that sports fans as a whole will wake up and register the fact that they have a crucial part to play in their teams' success. Results depend on players having confidence and adrenalin. They depend on players being prepared to try out things without fearing in the back of their mind that they will be criticised if it doesn't come off. In modern times most teams make sure that they make a point of applauding their fans and fans should realise that the cliche about them being the twelfth man is true. The statistics confirm that home teams are much more likely to win than if they played the same opposition away. One other thing - and I'd be interested in hearing from people on this - trying to niggle the opponents seems to have the reverse affect making the opposition more determined. That's why I think we should appoint a crowd strategist in time for the Olympics in 2012 - who knows the world might be our oyster. |
