It was not the greatest England performance but they managed to win in the last minute and there were some quality performances. In particular, Joe Cole was outstanding; and Michael Carrick, Peter Crouch and Shaun Wright-Phillips will have cemented their places in the England squad. Uruguay scored a spectacular goal to take the lead against the run of play in the first half. With England making a variety of substitutions they were starting to look disjointed when Peter Crouch scored the equaliser - it was his first goal for his country. England then took charge and as Uruguay's discipline started to fail, Joe Cole scored to attain a win for England. |
