Commonwealth Games: Day 2 Round Up Print E-mail
Friday, 17 March 2006

England still hold third place in the Commonwealth Games after the second day.

Australia are first by a long way with 12 golds, India are second with 4 golds and England are third with 3 golds, 7 silvers and 4 bronze.

England gained seven medals on day two. Notable was Team England's success in the pool with Matt Clay and Ross Davenport taking golds and Liam Tancock and Simon Burnett both winning silvers.

England's rugby sevens won silver losing 21-29 to a strong New Zealand side and Team England’s women gymnastics team went one better than the men by winning silver.

But special mention must go to a bronze medal winner - Mick Gault.

Gault and Nick Baxter collected bronze in the men’s 50m pistol pairs. It was Gault's 12th Commonwealth Games medal and he is now just one medal away from equalling Karen Pickering’s Team England record of 13 Commonwealth Games medals.
