After Day 5 of the Commonwealth Games, England maintained their second position in the medals table with 18 golds, 21 silvers and 15 bronzes. England won five golds on the day. England's squash player Peter Nicol completed a historic hat-trick of gold medals when he added the singles title at these games to his men’s doubles gold in Manchester and singles gold in Kuala Lumpur. Team England’s swimmers won two golds and, in gymnastics, Imogen Cairns won the individual vault and Louis Smith won the pommel horse gold. Australia continue to storm away in first place with 42 golds. India are in third place with 12 golds. Unluckiest country so far is Canada, who have a good haul of 37 medals but are behind Scotland, who have more golds. |
