The 2006 British Championships in Sheffield saw some excellent performances from some of Britain's young swimmers including Francesca Halsall (16 next week) and Jessica Dickons (also 15 years old). In the 50m Freestyle, Francesca Halsall set a lifetime best and new British Age Group Record to win in a time of 25.54. Halsall also won silver in the 50m Backstroke in a personal best of 29.90, behind Katie Sexton (Portsmouth Northsea). Jessica Dickons (Stockton) lowered her best by two seconds to successfully defend her title in the 200m Butterfly. Amongst the other highlights were Loughborough University’s Joe Roebuck who won the 400m Individual Medley and James Goddard, who swam his fastest time in more than a year in the 200m Backstroke. More news of the championships are available from the Amateur Swimming Association. |
