England won their first ODI, with stand-in captain, Andrew Strauss, leading from the front with a quality 74 before he retired hurt because of the severe heat.
England had India, who batted first, in trouble and only a century partnership from MS Dhoni and Ramesh Powar ensured they made a respectable total of 223 all out.
Strauss and Bell got England off to a confident start before Bell went for 46 and England did not have too many problems in reaching 227 for 5 off only 42.4 overs. |
