After a great Commonwealth Games, the European Championships have proved disappointing for England's badminton hopes. Top seeds Nathan Robertson and Gail Emms lost in the third round of the mixed doubles 21-15 21-18 to Germany's Kristof Hopp and Birgit Overzier. Tracey Hallam was also beaten in the third round. She lost 21-11 21-14 to Denmark's Tine Rasmussen. Aamir Ghaffar, Andrew Smith, Nick Kidd, Elizabeth Cann all lost as well. England's hopes now lie with Emms and Donna Kellogg in the women's doubles and Anthony Clark and Robert Blair in the men's doubles plus Clark and Kellogg and Blair and Natalie Munt in the mixed doubles. |
