Ellen MacArthur set her seventh world record in her attempt to establish new ‘crewed’ record times over 11 different legs on a voyage of 4572 miles around Asia. Meanwhile Dee Caffari continues the Aviva Challenge going through the real and the metaphorical doldrums - to be the first woman to sail single-handed, non-stop, around the world against prevailing winds and currents. Caffari's diary today poignantly records her struggle: "I have played all the mind games I can and I am now struggling with this lack of progress. I really do have my fingers crossed for it to be behind me soon. I don't want to sound as if I am always complaining, too much wind, too little wind, too hot, too much rain. It seems I am never happy, but The Aviva Challenge has delivered such extremes. It really has been an all or nothing affair, whatever happened to a steady 15 knots for a few days. I don't ask for much!" |
