David Beckham, Sol Campbell and David James have all been dropped from the England squad for the friendly against Greece on the 16th August. Most notable newcomer is Dean Ashton. Other notable inclusions include Ben Foster and Phil Neville.

Darren Bent was switched from the Under 21 squad, however Theo Walcott remains in the U-21s.

Beckham remains just six short of a century of caps. McClaren spoke with David Beckham on Monday and indicated he wanted to go in a new direction. Beckham said he wanted to fight for his place and McClaren said he would never close the door, but reiterated that he wanted England to move in a new direction.

Terry Venables has been confirmed as McClaren's assistant.

McClaren said he wanted "evolution not revolution."
