Campbell protests after gold Print E-mail
Monday, 14 August 2006
Great Britain won just one gold in the European Championships and that attracted controversy.

After Britain's 4x100 metres victory, Darren Campbell only shook Marlon Devonish's hand and turned his back on Dwain Chambers and Mark Lewis-Francis, both of whom have previously tested positive for drugs.

Also in the medals were Mo Farah, who gained silver in the 5,000m and Sam Ellis, who took bronze in the 800m.

Britain ended in tenth position with one gold, five silvers and five bronzes. Amongst the anomalies in the medals table is that Britain gained the joint second most medals and the joint top number of medals in men's events.

Britain's men did better than Russia's men (11 of Russia's 12 golds and 28 out of their 34 total medals were achieved by their women).
