Mark Buckton is the UK's only Japan trained amateur sumo rikishi (wrestler). Although not wrestling at the moment, mainly because of family commitments, Buckton is immersed in sumo. He is often in and around Ryogoku and eastern Tokyo researching articles on sumo for The Japan Times Online, where he is sumo columnist and Sumo Fan Magazine where he is Editor-in-Chief.
Formerly in the Royal Air Force, Buckton was stationed in Southeast Turkey and was detached to northern Iraq in the mid-90s. Mark Buckton is President of the UKSA - United Kingdom Sumo Association. |
