Athletics: Jo Pavey (Exeter Harriers) will run for Team Europe at the IAAF World Cup in Athens on 16-17 September. Pavey ran her fastest 5000m at the Ivo Van Damme Memorial IAAF Golden League in Brussels on Friday.

It was not a brilliant IAAF World Athletics Tour meeting in Rieti, Italy, on Sunday for British athletes. Best of the bunch was Marlon Devonish (Coventry Godiva Harriers), who was fourth in the 200m. In the 1500m, Mo Farah finished 12th, Andy Baddeley 13th and Mike East 15th.

Meanwhile Jon Brown returns from a nine month lay-off from injury to compete in the Great North Run on 1 October.

Pool: England A and B pairings dropped out in the early stages of the World Cup of Pool, which was eventually won by the Philippines. The England teams each featured former world snooker champions. Ronnie O'Sullivan was in the A side and Steve Davis in the B side.
