Nick Matthew triumphs Print E-mail
Tuesday, 19 September 2006
Nick Matthew beat Thierry Lincou 11-8 5-11 11-4 9-11 11-6 to become the first English born winner of squash's British Open for 67 years.

Previous winner, Peter Nicol, was, of course, born in Scotland, although he represented England in the latter part of his career.

Nick Matthew had only beaten Thierry Lincou once before in eleven meetings, but he took advantage of the fatigue the Frenchman suffered through a gruelling route to the final.
