Alastair Cook and Monty Panesar have been given 12-month central contracts for the first time by the English Cricket Board.

Michael Vaughan and Simon Jones have also been awarded contracts despite injuries ruling them out of the Ashes series.

The ECB panel decided that no wicket-keeper (Chris Read and Geraint Jones being the obvious candidates) currently meets the criteria for the award of an England 12-month Central Contract.
