The Ashes are here! Print E-mail
Thursday, 23 November 2006
England have won just four out of seventeen Tests at the Gabba and the morning of the first Test of the Ashes series looked like they'd have their problems making it five from eighteen.

Australia won the toss and Steve Harmison was wayward and taken off after just a couple of overs. Australia had reached 79 without loss before Freddie Flintoff - by far England's best bowler - boosted morale by getting Hayden to edge one to Collingwood.

Earlier England had elected to start with Giles rather than Panesar, even though Giles had not played a first-class match in a year, compared to Panesar's 32 wickets in 10 Tests in the same period.

England: A J Strauss, A N Cook, I R Bell, P D Collingwood, K P Pietersen, A Flintoff, G O Jones, A F Giles, M J Hoggard, S J Harmison, J M Anderson
