For the first 40 minutes of Fabio Capello's first game in charge, it looked as if it was upsetting business as usual for England fans. It was not just the lack of goals, but the poor quality of the performance.

However, Jermaine Jenas's goal just before half-time seemed to help England into their stride and although Switzerland equalised, it was a brief period of parity before substitute Shaun Wright-Phillips made it 2-1 in the 62nd minute.

England team: James, Brown, Ferdinand, Upson, Ashley Cole (Bridge 73), Bentley, Jenas (Wright-Phillips 57), Gerrard, Barry (Hargreaves 73), Joe Cole (Crouch 57), Rooney (Young 87).

Substitutres Not Used: Carson, Richards, Lescott, Woodgate, Owen, Defoe, Kirkland.
